Tazewell County Retired Teachers Association
GENERAL INFORMATION
Tazewell County RTA was organized for fellowship among members and to cooperate with NRTA and IRTA for mutual good. The stated purpose, according to bylaws adopted on April 10, 1961, is “to promote the interests of retired teachers.” Dues are $10.00 a year. Our organization is located in Area 4, Region 10, Unit 33.
MEETINGS
Luncheon meetings with business and programs are held the second Monday of each month, March through December.
PROGRAMS
The directors in each area make all arrangements for meetings in their respective localities. In general, programs are given as listed in the yearbook, but changes and additions may be made as the need arises.
TELEPHONE CALLERS
Telephone callers contact members of their area early in the week before the meeting. The callers then report the number and names to Assistant Treasurers, Sherrill Saathoff or Judy Streid by noon of the Wednesday prior to the meeting date. They then inform the director(s) of the number of people to be served lunch. Anyone wishing to cancel should call Sherrill Saathoff by noon on the Thursday prior to the meeting; otherwise the luncheon fee must still be paid.
BENEVOLENT FUND
A monetary offering is taken at each meeting to maintain I.R.T.A. Foundation Services, the Sunshine Fund, or REPAC. In December the donation goes to the Salvation Army. Those who know of ill health or bereavement are asked to inform the telephone caller from their area or the Sunshine Fund chairman.
MEMORIALS
The Association shall contribute a memorial of $20.00 to the I.R.T.A. Foundation Services following the death of a member. Should the deceased be a local member
only, the $20.00 memorial will be given to a charity of the family’s choice.
